Seniors invited to learn about 'Computer Resources at Your Library'
The technology resources available through Josephine Community Libraries will be demonstrated by library staff to the next meeting of the Rogue Area Senior Computer Assistance League (RASCAL). The 45-minute presentation entitled "Computer Resources at Your Library" will take place during the RASCAL meeting 9:30-11 am Tuesday, July 13, at the Floral Building of the Josephine County Fairgrounds.
Summer reading program in full swing at all library branches
Ice Fishing! Blubber Mitten! Origami Whale! Fingerprint Fish! Seaweed Tag! Smiling Crocodiles! Musical Beach Towels! These are some of the games and crafts that kids (preschoolers on up) are experiencing as part of the “Make a Splash – Read!” summer reading program.
Kate Lasky hired as JCLI executive director
Kate Lasky has been selected to become our new JCLI executive director. Kate, who has served as the JCLI volunteer coordinator since December, will take the helm as executive director after a new volunteer coordinator has been hired and trained, around late July.
K-9 Reading Buddies and Family Fun Films switches to Fridays for the summer
Starting Friday June 25, the K-9 Reading Buddies program and the Saturday Children's Matinee switches to every Friday and will continue on this schedule throughout the summer.
Introducing Laska Golden, Americorps VISTA volunteer
Laska Golden recently began serving with JCLI as an Americorps VISTA volunteer. Laska recently moved to Grants Pass from Spokane, WA to be closer to family. Having been raised in Southern Oregon, she is glad to be back “home.”
Libraries closed Saturday for the Fourth of July weekend
The four branches of the JCLI system will be closed this Saturday, July 3, in celebration of the Fourth of July holiday. As usual, the libraries are also closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Volunteer Coordinator position open
Josephine Community Libraries is seeking to hire a part-time Volunteer Coordinator. This position closes July 6, 2010.
“Catch a Wave” with teen activities at the libraries
The teen summer reading program at the Grants Pass Library is called “Catch a Wave,” and is open to kids in 6th through 12th grades. The program will take place June 22 through August 14. Registration will be June 22-26 outside the library’s front and side doors during open hours.
“Oregon Is Indian Country” exhibit comes to Grants Pass this month
Learn about Oregon’s Native American heritage from June 9 until July 13 at the Grants Pass Library. “Oregon is Indian Country” is a traveling exhibit produced by the Oregon Historical Society in partnership with Oregon’s nine federally recognized tribes.

We did it! We overshot the goal of 400 recipes, and now the cookbook committee has the enviable task of selecting the very best recipes to include in our JCLI Cookbook. Thanks to everyone for submitting your recipes. At least one recipe from everyone who submitted will be published.
$77,700 raised in the Spring Membership Campaign!

"Make a Splash" in the summer reading program
Kids throughout the area are looking forward to the end of school and the start of the summer reading program at the libraries! The elementary program is called “Make a Splash – Read!” and the middle school/teen program is called “Catch a Wave!” Kids from preschoolers through 12th graders are invited to participate.
"Stock Up for Summer" book sale June 4 and 5
The Grants Pass Friends of the Library is holding its "Stock Up for Summer" book sale on June 4 and 5 in the Ben Bones Room of the Grants Pass Library.
Last chance for the spring campaign – stand up and be counted
We’re now approaching the end of the spring 2010 membership campaign. To those of you who have contributed during this campaign, thank you so very much. As of May 22, you have helped us raise $65,500 that will go towards keeping the doors to our four library branches open for another year.
New books now available
In April, 615 new items were added to our library collection, well above our monthly average of 578 new items each month. Here's a small sampling of new books recently added:
May 17, a grim anniversary – please don’t let it happen again!
On May 17, 2007, all four branches of the Josephine County Library System closed, and stayed closed for 18-30 months. It took the founding of a new nonprofit, nongovernmental organization, Josephine Community Libraries, unending hours of amazingly dedicated volunteer effort, and funding through mostly YOU – our wonderful contributing members.
